Bamburgh Castle 2 Lowick United 0
North Northumberland League, Division One
Bamburgh climbed the table with a hollow victory over Lowick. The opening goal came on 22 minutes against the run of play. Stevie Walker did well to keep the ball in play down the right flank and played a one-two with Johny Johnson before curling a left-foot shot beyond Lowick keeper Steven Mason (1-0).
Lowick had a good penalty shout waved away and, with Parkin in goal for Bamburgh looking assured, the visitors rarely threatened as play remained even.
However, when Lowick’s Ewan Sherry was red-carded for a kick on an opponent on 40 minutes events took a bizarre turn.
Johny Johnson crossed from the right and Darren Egdell planted a firm header into the net to extend the lead (2-0).
Lowick contested the goal and as a result two more players were asked to leave the field.
To Lowick’s great credit their eight remaining men gave Bamburgh a contest in the second half, with the home side looking unsettled by previous events.
Mason made a string of saves and, indeed, it was Parkin at the other end who spared Bamburgh’s blushes, diverting Andy Metcalf’s shot with his legs onto the post.
