Martin nets last gasp winner for Alnmouth

This end to end encounter followed almost an identical pattern to last week’s match for Alnmouth except for one crucial twist: it was the visitors who registered the disputed last kick winner.

United were slow out of the blocks and gave themselves a not unusual mountain to climb by conceding twice in the opening four minutes when Michael Old side-footed home from six yards followed by John Wood’s free header from a corner.

Once again the revival commenced soon after the interval as Sean Anderson and Danny Lillico combined to feed Andy Murray who ghosted past two defenders before sliding past the advancing keeper Ross Fellows.

The leveller arrived on the hour as birthday boy Murray doubled his tally after first controlling a feed on his chest to find the net.

Two minutes later, the turnaround looked complete when Anderson’s angled ball into the box was diverted just inside the post by luckless Craig Shipley.

The home side were allowed back into the match ten minutes from time as Old applied a close range finish for his second.

Back on the offensive and deep into injury time Kevin Bell’s ball across a crowded box was forced home by Andrew Martin for the winner.
