Rothbury U10...1 Lowick U10...4
Glendale League, U10
A PROMISING start by Rothbury U10s wasn’t enough to secure victory over a strong Lowick team.
Rothbury started well, dominating possession in midfield and creating goal-scoring opportunities.
James Williams was particularly to the fore in the strong Rothbury start and, after several opportunities, Rothbury scored first.
A cross from the left flank fell into the Lowick box and Rothbury’s Cameron Austin-Walker was the first to react.
In a style reminiscent of Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cameron delivered a nonchalant flick to the bouncing ball and the resultant chip floated lazily over the Lowick keeper into the net.
Yet Rothbury’s early lead flattered to deceive and Lowick were blessed with two blonde forwards who definitely knew were the goal was.
Lowick’s equaliser was thundered into the top corner of the Rothbury goal and a second Lowick goal quickly followed.
Rothbury took the game to Lowick in the second half but the Lowick keeper dealt with all that was thrown at him.
The game hinged on a mix-up in the Rothbury penalty when a meaty defensive clearance was inadvertently deflected into the path of an in-form Lowick forward.
A well-struck third for Lowick was the instant result.
Again Rothbury pressed and Cameron Austin-Walker had a goal disallowed.
Alex Wharrier and Throsten Robinson were at the heart of the some good passing football for the red and white clad Rothbury side.
Unfortunately, Rothbury couldn’t match the excellent Lowick finishing and a fourth well-struck finish by the Lowick blondes sealed victory for the claret and blues.
Rothbury man-of-the-match: James Williams, a tremendous performance by the Rothbury midfield dynamo.
