Alnwick Town, Rothbury, Wooler and Lowick all saw their games postponed.

It was a similar story on Sunday when Alnwick Town Ladies had to call off their Northumberland FA Women’s Cup semi-final tie at home against Newcastle United. The teams will hope to go again this weekend in a hastily re-arranged fixture.

Also on Sunday all the fixtures in the Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League were postponed.

Of the games that went ahead, Wallington lost 2-0 away to Ponteland United in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, a result which leaves them ninth in the table.

In Division 2, local rivals Ellington and Stobswood Welfare faced each other, Ellington beating the basement side 1-0.

And in the Development Division, North Sunderland edged a 4-3 away win over Swalwell, a victory which consolidated their fourth place in the table.

Alliance fixtures for this Saturday (February 22) are:

Premier Division – Gateshead Rutherford v Alnwick Town; Wallington v Shankhouse.

Division 1 – Seaton Burn v Rothbury; Bedlington FC v Rede Row Welfare.

Development Division – Wooler v North Sunderland; Newcastle East End Res v Lowick.

Meanwhile, in the Combination League it was an unbeaten day for Alnwick two representatives.

The Development Squad fought back from a goal behind to beat Walkergate 2-1, a game which was switched to the 3g pitch at Kenton in Newcastle. This was the side’s second successive victory following their win over Heaton Hawks the previous weekend.

Alnwick U23s were held to a 2-2 draw on the 3g at Greensfield by opponents Fawdon Park.

It’s a big weekend for Alnwick Ladies coming up with both their teams in action.

Whilst the first team take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park (Alnwick), a game which kicks off at 1.30pm, the club’s Development Squad face Wallsend BC Reserves in the Northumberland Women’s County League, a game which is being played on the all-weather surface at Greensfield,(4pm ko).
