Local football a victim of the weekend weather

It was a blank weekend for the majority of local sides in the Northern Alliance League at the weekend with the effects of Storm Dennis making pitches unplayable.

Alnwick Town, Rothbury, Wooler and Lowick all saw their games postponed.

It was a similar story on Sunday when Alnwick Town Ladies had to call off their Northumberland FA Women’s Cup semi-final tie at home against Newcastle United. The teams will hope to go again this weekend in a hastily re-arranged fixture.

The Development Squad fought back from a goal behind to beat Walkergate 2-1, a game which was switched to the 3g pitch at Kenton in Newcastle. This was the side’s second successive victory following their win over Heaton Hawks the previous weekend.

Alnwick U23s were held to a 2-2 draw on the 3g at Greensfield by opponents Fawdon Park.

It’s a big weekend for Alnwick Ladies coming up with both their teams in action.

Whilst the first team take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park (Alnwick), a game which kicks off at 1.30pm, the club’s Development Squad face Wallsend BC Reserves in the Northumberland Women’s County League, a game which is being played on the all-weather surface at Greensfield,(4pm ko).
