The first ever joint tournament between the Tynedale Mini Soccer and Glendale Youth League was held at Glendale Middle School, Wooler, last weekend.

The idea behind this event was to bring two rural leagues both affiliated to the Northumberland FA together for the first time in order to give all teams new opposition as both leagues have limited teams within them.

This Glendale / Tynedale Tournament for U7s and U8s teams was split into two Trophy events - The Tweed Trophy and the Coquet Trophy and trophies and medals were supplied by SportsWorld of Alnwick.

A total of 24 teams originally entered and teams from Throckley Magpies Juniors, Wark Juniors, Kingston Park, Hexham, Prudhoe YCFC and Stocksfield (Tynedale) were joined by teams from Alnwick, Longhoughton, Longhorsely, Felton, Rothbury, Seahouses, Berwick, Glendale and Wooler (Glendale).

It was a well contested Tweed Trophy Final between Hexham Barca and Felton Fox Cubs with Hexham eventual 4-1 winners.

Stocksfield FC very unlucky to be beaten on Penalties by Rothbury and Hexham Dynamo were beaten by eventual winners Longhougton Rangers in the semi finals of the Coquet Trophy.

The U10 / U9 competition will be played on May 7 at Tynedale Rugby Club, Corbridge, where teams will be playing for the Tyne Trophy and the Allen Trophy.
