Wallsend broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when the number nine cut in between the centre-backs and fired low into the far corner.

Ninety seconds later, Rangers were level. Asprey played a forward pass into Pattinson who had his back to goal. Pattinson played a one-two with Brunton who then played the ball outside to Moir whose chip found the net (1-1).

As half-time approached, the tie seemed to be evenly poised, but Rangers lost their concentration and Wallsend scored twice to end the half 3-1 ahead. The second half kicked off with Rangers quick out of the traps. Moir struck the ball across the Wallsend keeper into the far corner to make it 3-2.

Next, Asprey received a return pass from Brookes and fired home from 20 yards (3-3).

The last 12 minutes saw Rangers totally dominate the game. A corner saw the ball frantically cleared, before it eventually came back out to Brookes who drove down the left-hand side of the box, beating two Wallsend players. His low ball found its way to an unmarked Asprey at the back post who effortlessly struck the ball home (4-3).

Asprey completed his hat-trick as a goal-kick landed at his feet and he unleashed a right-footed strike that was only going one place, the top right corner (5-3).

Moir then completed his hat-trick. As he put pressure on the Wallsend right-back, he latched onto a loose pass and drove into the box to strike home (6-3).
