Shilbottle moved nine points clear at the top of the league table with this comfortable victory at the Welfare Ground.
The Colliers opened brightly and Josh Hay and Joe Henderson both shot wide.
They eventually opened the scoring after 25 minutes when a good through ball from Matty Graham put Hay in the clear to finish well. Several more chances were created before the break but were not converted and the Colliers had to settle for a single goal advantage at the interval.
Shilbottle continued to press following the restart and Hay headed wide of an open goal. However, he redeemed himself on 55 minutes when he finished well from close range following a good ball into the box from Henderson.
The Colliers received a shock just after the hour mark when Cullercoats pulled a goal back following a rare breakaway when a shot from Aaron Langlands was deflected wide of the Shilbottle keeper.
The two goal advantage was restored shortly after when Hay completed his hattrick having been set up by Liam Brooks. Brooks then got on the score sheet after 75 minutes with a strike from the edge of the box and this was followed by another two from hay, taking his tally for the afternoon to five. .
