Disgusted officials from a grassroots football club have made a fresh plea to irresponsible dog owners, in a bid to give mess on pitches the red card.
Alnwick Town representatives claim they are fighting a constant battle against pets soiling the Greensfield soccer fields, used by both junior and senior players.
The situation is so bad that it is affecting matches and training and the club says its players’ health is at risk.
Town officials made a similar plea last year – but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Cyril Cox, from the club, said: “It is against the law to allow dogs to use sports pitches as a toilet.
“Recently our senior team started training and one of our players became covered in dog dirt after sliding.
“We ask that dog owners stop using our pitches as a toilet for their dogs.
“The health of the players is being put at risk and by walking their dogs on the pitches and allowing them to defecate on them, the owners are responsible in allowing this.”
