SEATON DELAVAL AMS 1

SHILBOTTLE CW 0

Following the postponement of their Combination Cup tie at Wallsend BC due to a waterlogged pitch, a hastily rearranged League Cup tie saw Shilbottle give up home advantage and travel to Wheatridge Park, Seaton Delaval in an attempt to clear their fixture backlog.

Despite losing a cup tie by a single goal for the second weekend in succession, this was a much improved performance against the Premier League highflyers, compared to their dismal exit from the NFA Minor Cup the previous week.

The game opened with the Colliers on the back foot as they struggled to contain their higher league opponents but came more into the game as the half progressed.

They almost opened the scoring on the half hour when Josh Hay was pulled down when going clear and Joe Henderson’s free kick found the side netting.

With Shilbottle’s stand-in keeper Ross Stewart looking assured in goal the interval arrived with the game goalless.

Shortly after the restart Matty Graham put an effort from 30 yards just over the bar before Seaton Delaval finally broke the deadlock on the hour. A free kick on the edge of the box was played square to Graham Cairns who shot into the corner of the net giving the Colliers keeper no chance.
