North Northumberland League round-up

Division One

Shilbottle CW 2

North Sunderland 2

The visitors got off to a flying start with Andrew Robertson giving them a second-minute lead.

With both teams playing well, it was a close contest with Shilbottle drawing level after 40 minutes following a penalty which was converted by Ali Turvey.

The second half was again close but a close- range effort from Stephen Rutter after 70 minutes saw the visitors ahead. Shilbottle came back to take a share of the points with an 82nd-minute goal scored from 15 yards out by Liam ‘The Robot’ Brooks.

Belford 3 Rothbury 1

For an end-of-season game, this was quite an open match with just a 20th-minute goal from Kevin France separating the teams at half-time.

In the second half, Belford had the better chances, with a good goal from Andy Thompson on 65 minutes and Neil Jefferson on 70 minutes extending the Belford lead.

Rothbury never gave up the chase and were rewarded after 88 minutes when Gavin Dick scored a consolation goal.

Berwick Utd 1

Tweedmouth Harrow 2

In a good end-to-end game, it was Berwick who led at half-time thanks to a goal from Craig Young.

Harrow came out strongly after half-time, with Callum Ferguson equalising after 54 minutes and a goal from Andy Burgon sealing the win for Harrow after 80 minutes.

Runciman Cup

Amble St Cuthbert 3

Lowick 1 (aet)

A fifth-minute strike from outside the area from Karl Chapman gave Lowick the lead.

But David Whenray equalised after 20 minutes to leave the teams level at 1-1 as the referee blew the whistle for half-time.

In the second half, Amble were the stronger side and on 70 minutes, a long pass out of defence found James Hedley, who ran on to score a second for the home side.

Lowick hit back and, on 80 minutes, Andy Metcalfe netted an equaliser to send the game into extra-time.

It was still level at the end of the first period of extra-time, but in the second half, Timmy Young netted to give Amble the lead.

In the final minute, only a fine save by Sean Straker denied Lowick an equaliser.
