Northumberland Mini Soccer U10’s League – Blyth Town Inter 1 FC Amble Juniors 1

AMBLE played their second match of the weekend, on Sunday, March 20, travelling to table toppers Blyth, who are still unbeaten this season.

With three wins on the bounce for Amble and three clean sheets, the boys were full of confidence and gave a tremendous performance, showing determination and effort, while also playing some good football along the way.

Zack Davison playing at left back set the tone with a great challenge in the opening minutes, winning the ball, going out for a corner.

The corner was whipped in with Amble’s Niall Black palming the ball out.

Brandon McCann had Amble’s next chance with a shot on target, which the keeper saved well.

With Blyth on the attack, it was Zack Davison winning the ball again at the back. Amble broke up field, however, Amble lost the ball and Blyth caught Amble on the break.

With only Benjamin Southward at the back, he made a great tackle winning the ball.

Going into the closing minutes of the first quarter, Blyth attacked down the right but Zack Davison and Joseph Flanighan doubled up to win the ball, 0-0 at the break.

Brandon McCann had the next chance with a shot going across the face of the goal.

David Purvis was unlucky at the back post, placing the ball on target, with the keeper saving.

Purvis then played in a good ball to McCann with the keeper saving again. Joseph Flanighan switched the ball to Ross Ramsay who found space in front of him, drove forward, and played a good ball to Brandon McCann with another shot on target which the keeper saved again, going in at half time 0-0.

Blyth were unlucky in the opening minutes of the third quarter, hitting the post.

Amble broke away up field and David Purvis played the ball to McCann who quickly gave the ball back to Purvis at the back post, to put the ball in the back of the net for a well deserved 0-1 lead.

Amble went on the attack again down the right with Mathew Thompson crossing the ball into the penalty area with a shot from McCann, which could have easily doubled our lead.

Another chance went to Amble before the break with the keeper saving again from McCann.

Amble switched Robert Straughan into nets for the last quarter and pulled off three good saves to deny the home team who were pushing more players forward looking for a goal.

With one of their shots coming back out, Wilf Campbell was alert and got to the ball first, putting the ball out to safety. With the last kick of the match Blyth tried their luck with a shot from outside the penalty area that just sneaked in under the cross bar to level the scores.

Our boys played exceptionally well today against the league leaders, who were very close to losing their first match of the season, if not for a tremendous goal at the end.

Well done to all players for their effort and to our parents for their support over the weekend.
