FC Amble Juniors travelled to Ponteland for the third round of the League Cup.

Amble started playing some great football, with Callum Fenwick setting up James Oliver whose effort went just over the bar.

Amble’s first goal began with an Andy Flanighan goal-kick to Ronan Straughan. His ball fell into the path of Jordan King and his shot flew past the home keeper (0-1).

James Oliver scored Amble’s second goal direct from a corner, his in-swinger going straight through the keeper’s arms for a 0-2 lead.

A good run by Shane Wright into the penalty box and a sweet ball by Oliver, led to Wright shooting on target, with the keeper saving.

Good play again by Oliver fed Ali Batey, who found Jordan King but he fired just wide. Amble’s third goal wastarted by Jason Imeson, then Jordan King, with Batey getting on the scoresheet from close range (0-3).

James Aston tried his luck from distance but his effort went just over the bar just before the break.

Going into the second half, a Ronan Straughan throw-in was flicked on by Jordan King to the back post. James Oliver got his head to the ball for Amble’s fourth goal (0-4).

Batey played a good ball to Imeson, as Nathan Potts drove forward. A good tackle by the defender prevented Potts from scoring.

Good play between King and Batey led to a Brad Little shot going just wide.

Batey played a good ball to King, who put in a good cross to the back-post for Potts to head against the post.

Another cross from King found Potts and this time he got the ball on target, only for the keeper to save.

Batey and Oliver combined well again, putting the ball into the box for Imeson to head wide of the target.

Potts finally got his goal and Amble’s fifth, with a tremendous shot from outside the box, with the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar then going over the line (0-5).

Another corner from Oliver resulted inImeson getting there first, with his header going over the crossbar. Ponteland scored a consolation goal in the closing minutes after being awarded a penalty, which they duly dispatched (1-5).
