North Shields Hawks...4

FC Amble Juniors...2

FC Amble Juniors kicked off the New Year with a game against North Shields Hawks and scored within a minute, with Joseph Flanighan passing the ball to Brandon McCann to fire Amble into the lead.

Shields soon levelled the score with a shot from close range (1-1). The Hawks doubled their advantage when their midfielder burst through to smash the ball in the back of the net (2-1).

From Robert Straughan’s inch-perfect Amble corner, McCann fired in his second of the match to equal the scores in the first quarter, (2-2).

The Hawks took an early lead in the second quarter form a corner kick that was placed just beyond Amble’s keeper Niall Black (3-2).

David Purvis had a chance to level the score from a free-kick that went just over the bar. Zack Davison’s determination down the right won the ball, before he set up Brandon McCann who let the ball run past him, with his shot hitting the side-netting.

In the third quarter, Hawks went on the attack again, hitting a shot on target that was blocked by Benjamin Southward. Flanighan’s throw-in down the left found McCann on the edge of the penalty area. He was unlucky not to get his third goal, again hitting the side-netting.

With Straughan now in goal for Amble, he finger-tipped the ball onto the bar for a tremendous save to deny the home side.

The Hawks fourth goal came after some good football, playing their way into the Amble penalty area and then placing the ball into the bottom corner. Niall Black, playing outfield played a good ball out to Mathew Thompson, whose shot scuffed the Hawks post.

Two Purvis chances in the closing minutes were saved by the keeper.
