Shilbottle just came out on top of this hard fought encounter at the University Sports Ground at Cochrane Park, Longbenton.

The Colliers should have opened the scoring in the first minute when Josh Hay broke clear to set up Liam Brooks only for him to miskick in front of goal. They were made to pay for this miss when the University opened the scoring after ten minutes through Allan Olumese.

Shilbottle were level within a couple of minutes when Hay headed home from a corner at the near post. Within a minute the Colliers were ahead when Hay again headed home a deep cross from Brooks.

Five minutes before the interval the Colliers went further ahead. Jordan Giles did well to win a ball in midfield which he laid off to Scott McMullen whose through ball found Hay to finish well from the edge of the box to complete his hat-trick.

However, there was still time for the University to pull a goal back through Olumese before the half time whistle blew. Olumese went on to complete his hat-trick after an hour as the University drew level, and the ‘Bottle went on to win the match just two minutes later with a tremendous strike from 20 yards from Liam Brooks which found the corner of the net.
