Goals keep flowing for River

River Coquet...7 Alnmouth Argyle...3

RIVER Coquet kept up their magnificent form as Alnmouth were put to the sword thanks to a Brad McClelland hat-trick.

It took River about 10 minutes to settle into the game and the in-form Jordan Roper was the man to open up the scoring.

Liam Ramsay then added to his season tally with a well-taken strike after an exquisite assist from Sean Anderson to take the score to 2-0.

Not to be outdone, Roper added a third to the game with a beautiful goal from the tightest of tight angles.

Roper then turned supplier as he played a ball over from the right for Brad McClelland to rise the highest at the far post to bury his header before celebrating with Roper.

With minutes to go until half-time, Alnmouth scored from the edge of the box which went straight past Straker who had no real chance with it.

With the scores at 4-1, the referee blew the half-time whistle.

In the second half, team magician Gary Taylor showed his usual classy style of play.

A free-kick on the edge of the box was floated just over the bar by the very impressive Sean Anderson but after the resulting goal kick was won by River, McClelland claimed his second and River’s fifth.

Thompson was then replaced by little terrier Robson who immediately made his presence felt by setting up debutant Reece Ramsay.

He pulled the trigger from 20 yards out which took a slight deflection but just enough to beat the keeper.

River’s second substitution brought on Dan Dewson who replaced Reece Ramsay and slotted in at centre back to allow Ryan Jones to fill into midfield.

McClelland then claimed his hat-trick with another header to take the score to 7-1 and remarkably River’s 32nd goal in three games.

The referee then decided that Robson handled the ball in the box and gave Alnmouth the first of two penalties which was finished to Straker’s right.

But the second penalty proved the biggest talking point as Straker saved at the feet of the Alnmouth striker but the referee decided Straker brought him down illegally, even though Straker had the ball, and Alnmouth put the penalty into the same place.

The River revolution under Ramsay continues to roll on.
