Alnwick Town 4 Seaham Red Star 8
NORTHERN LEAGUE, DIVISION TWO
The teams at St James’ Park, Alnwick, served up a goal-fest to celebrate Non-League Day this afternoon.
Seaham started the ball rolling as their striker bent one into the far corner. They doubled their lead after sloppy defending from Town.
A free-kick in promising position for Town was high and wide before Red Star go up the other end and score to make it 0-3.
Another goal followed for a 0-4 scoreline and it was looking too easy for the visitors.
But then came an Alnwick revival as Adam Shanks hit the back of the net twice, his second winning and scoring a penalty for 2-4.
It was short-lived, however, as a lovely through-ball and dinked finish gave Seaham their fifth.
Number six followed – another case of failing to deal with the ball in defence (2-6).
Shanks scored again for his hat-trick, before the visitors replied to make it Alnwick 3 Seaham 7.
Danny Lowes struck again for Alnwick, leaving the fans wondering whether a comeback was on. But Seaham provided the answer with their eighth, breaking the offside trap and rounding the keeper to finish.
It was a breathless afternoon of goalscoring – an entertaining way to showcase non-league football.
