RANGERS secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season taking the points at Blyth Spartans.

Following last week’s win, Rangers went into this match brimming with confidence and opened their account in the first minute of the game, captain Morrison rolling the ball past Cullen in the Blyth goal, after good work by Parry and Finney on the left.

If Rangers thought they were favourites, no one had told Spartans and in the seventh minute Spartans levelled. Witson, lively down Rangers’ left flank, outpacing the static defence to square the ball for the unmarked Little who side-footed past Burn in the Rangers goal.

Longhoughton regained their goal advantage a minute later, Lester winning the ball in midfield and finding Keech whose powerful strike into the bottom right-hand corner left Cullen little chance.

Morrison extended Rangers’ lead on the 20-minute mark, running clear of the Blyth defence to clinically finish from 18 yards before Keech hit the cross-bar five minutes later.

Rangers struck first in the second half, Wood splitting the Blyth defence with a delightful ball that Morrison latched onto to hammer past the Spartans’ goalkeeper in the 40th minute securing her hat-trick.

Morrison made it five after 51 minutes, Finney combining well with the Rangers striker down the right before the forward’s cross turned shot squirmed past Blyth’s goalkeeper at her near post.

Rangers extended their lead four minutes later when Morrison intercepted the Spartans’ goal-kick to return the ball with interest, the shot squirming under Cullen in the Blyth goal to make it 6-1.

Spartans kept battling, Witson shooting wide in the 58th minute and from the resulting goal-kick Keech launched the ball upfield to find Morrison, the forward calmly beating Cullen low and to her right.

Spartans were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute after Keech was deemed to have fouled Witson in the area. Burn pulled off an amazing save to deny Witson, then reacted quickly to scramble and collect the loose ball at the feet of the Spartan striker.

Keech and Finney both had chances to add to Ranger’s lead, before Morrison netted her seventh as the game drew to a close.
