First-team coach to continue in Dick Advocaat’s backroom team at Sunderland

Former Yugoslavian international Zeljko Petrovic will resume his role as Dick Advocaat’s first-team coach at Sunderland next season.

Ex-West Ham assistant Petrovic arrived at the Stadium of Light to help Advocaat for the final nine games of last season after the Dutchman was handed the task of keeping Sunderland in the Premier League.

And Petrovic will resume his role as part of Advocaat’s backroom team after the 67-year-old performed a U-turn and agreed to extend his stint at the Stadium of Light.

Advocaat’s long-term assistant Bert van Lingen - who was in tears with his fellow Dutchman when Sunderland clinched Premier League survival at Arsenal - is also expected to rejoin him on Wearside.

Goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker should continue his role, while Sunderland will also have to decide on the long-term future of former midfielder Paul Bracewell.

Bracewell was promoted from the Under-21 set-up to help out Advocaat after he succeeded Gus Poyet at the helm and there have been suggestions that he will remain in that position.
