Morpeth Sunday League round-up
In the only top-flight game this week, Amble Tavern made it four wins out of four and they top the Division One table thanks to a 5-1 win over Stobswood with Sean Taylor grabbing a hat-trick.
Amble’s other scorers were Ali Turvey and Calvin Flanighan, who came off the bench to score the fifth.
Stobswood’s goal was scored by Steffan Tweddle.
NFA Sunday Cup
Two Division One teams were in NFA Sunday Cup action this week, with mixed results.
Bedlington Barrington Arms faced a tricky away tie against defending champions Blakelaw and were knocked out of the competition, losing 3-1.
The Barrington gave a good account of themselves, though, and actually led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Ross Dixon, but they just couldn’t see the game out.
Ashington RAOB, however, did progress to the next round as they defeated Hexham Phoenix 7-1 after extra-time.
Ashington took the lead on 70 minutes as Shaun Gibson made no mistake from the penalty-spot, but, with three minutes to go, Hexham equalised through Stephen Marsdra, forcing the game into extra-time.
The Buffs regained the advantage early in extra-time through Ben Harmison and never looked back as further goals from Mark Race, Liam Burton, Kristopher Willis, Stephen Harmison and a second from Gibson rounded off a good day at the office for them.
East Chevington continued their perfect start as they overcame Amble Blue Bell 5-0, with the result not completely reflecting the nature of the game as Amble performed admirably.
The game was poised at 1-0 for 80 minutes and East Chevington scored four in the last 10 minutes to put some gloss on the scoreline.
East Chevington sit top of the table after this game on 12 points with a game in hand on their nearest challengers and already look to have a good chance of winning the title.
In a goal-laden affair, North End Trap defeated Alnmouth Argyle 9-3 with the scorers as follows: Marc Nixon (two) Kev Bell (two) Josh Baston, Marc Mavin, Sean Anderson, Dylan McClean and Ian Turnbull. All three of the Alnmouth goals were scored by Chris Chisholm.
Finally in Division Two this week, Morpeth Shambles defeated HMP Northumberland 6-0.
