Delight for Alnwick Town Ladies with first title success

The champagne corks were popping on Sunday when Alnwick Town Ladies celebrated their first league title success.

The St james’ Park outfit, who were only formed just over a year ago, have enjoyed considerable success both on and off the pitch over recent months.

But winning the Northumberland County Women’s League title has to rank as their biggest achievement to date.

And they have done it in some style, with a ten out of ten record to date.

They have one game left to play - against Bedlington Town, at home on Sunday, April 29, and if they win that they will have gone through the league season with a 100 per cent record.

Alnwick secured the championship with a convincing 9-0 home win over Wallsend BC Reserves on Sunday when the goals were scored by Barrett (2), Lawson (2), Darling (2), Latto (2) and Tang.

They could yet achieve a league and cup double as they also face Newbiggin Hall in the Cup Final on May 20.
