Gateshead Leam Rangers 0 Shilbottle Colliery Welfare 3
Northern Football Alliance, Bay Plastics Division Two
Josh Hay hit his 55th league goal of the season as Shilbottle CW clinched the Bay Plastics Division Two title in a winner-takes-all showdown at Gateshead Leam Rangers.
Hit-man Hay fired in the opener when he was sent clear and showed a cool head to drill in low under the advancing keeper.
Danny Lowes added a second five minutes later when he chased down a backpass and slipped the ball home after blocking the keeper’s attempt to clear.
That left Rangers with a mountain to climb as Shilbottle’s superior goal difference ensured that a point would hand them the silverware. Ross Gair added a third for the Colliers from the penalty spot with three minutes to go to get the party in full swing.
Both sides will play in the Nike Division One next season after sealing promotion in the weeks running up to the title decider.
The curtain falls on the Northern Football Alliance season on Friday, May 15, when Blyth Town face Whitley Bay A in the Bay Plastics George Dobbins League Cup Final at Wheatridge Park, Seaton Delaval, kick-off 7pm.
