Sportsworld North Northumberland League, Anderson Cup – Quarter-Final

A BADLY depleted Shilbottle side made their exit from the Anderson Cup in this midweek encounter at a misty Lynemouth Welfare.

A fairly even first half-hour exploded into life when Lynemouth hit three goals in a 15-minute spell leading up to the break.

The first goal was deflected in off Dane Dawson as he attempted to block a cross but the other two were as a result of poor defending as Lynemouth broke down the left-flank.

The interval arrived with the Colliers three goals down and a mountain to climb.

They should have been back in the game shortly after the restart when Andy Metcalf put a good chance over the bar only for Allan Wallace to do exactly the same minutes later.

They finally did pull a goal back on the hour when Wallace picked up a rebound from the crossbar to fire home.

Pressing forward in an attempt to get back into the game inevitably left the Colliers short at the back and they were punished when Lynemouth broke clear to score a fourth goal after 70 minutes.

Richard Brown broke clear to get a second goal for the Colliers 10 minutes from time but it proved to be too little too late.
