Colliers notch first win at Welfare’s expense

Stobswood Welfare...2 Shilbottle CW...3

Sportsworld North Northumberland, Division One

SHILBOTTLE registered their first victory of the season at the third attempt with this fine win at Stobswood Welfare’s ground.

The game was fairly even early on with a free-kick from James Jackson for Shilbottle being the nearest attempt.

The Colliers finally made that breakthrough on the half-hour when a good through-ball from Ronnie Warwick put Richard Brown in the clear to finish well.

The Colliers went two up shortly after when a speculative cross from Michael Brown found the top corner at the back post as the Stobswood keeper was left stranded.

Shilbottle maintained their two-goal advantage until the interval and, within five minutes of the restart, had moved further ahead.

A good passing move saw Shaun Black beat his man to score a fine team goal.

The Colliers were now well on top and a Ronnie Warwick header almost increased their lead further.

However, Stobswood pulled a goal back on 65 minutes with a good attempt from Lenny Lansbury to give his side a chance.

Alan Wallace had an opportunity to settle the match in Shilbottle’s favour but his effort was blocked near the line.

A good goal from Ross Muter two minutes from time gave Stobswood some hope but the Colliers comfortably held on to take all the points.
