Shilbottle CW...3 Belford FC...0

North Northumberland League, Division One

SHILBOTTLE produced their best display of the season with this comfortable victory at a wind-swept Welfare Ground.

The Colliers kicked off with the elements in their favour and took the lead after 10 minutes’ play when a stunning volley by Andy Metcalf from the edge of the box found the back of the net.

Shilbottle continued to press and got a second goal after 25 minutes when a fine cross from Michael Brown out on the left found Andy Metcalf at the back-post to slot home.

Despite having the bulk of the play, the Colliers were unable to increase their advantage and had to settle for a two-goal lead at the interval.

With the wind in their favour after the break, Belford came more into the game but without creating many clear-cut chances.

The game was effectively settled on the hour when a cross into the box from Andy Metcalf was well controlled by Alan Wallace, who rounded the Belford keeper to shoot into an empty net.

This allowed the Colliers to play out the last half-hour in relative comfort to claim all the points.
