Colliers close league season with a point

SHILBOTTLE completed their league fixtures for the season by taking a share of the points in an entertaining game at the Welfare Ground.

The Colliers were poor early on and fell behind on the half-hour when Longhoughton took the lead with a well-worked goal.

A fairly uneventful first half came to a close with the visitors still the single goal to the good.

The Colliers drew level within a couple of minutes of the restart when Shaun Black was brought down in the box by a wild challenge that saw the Longhoughton player receive a straight red card.

The resultant penalty-kick was comfortably despatched by Phil Grey.

However, within five minutes Longhoughton had taken the lead again when a poor clearance saw a forward race clear to score.

The Colliers again drew level after 70 minutes when Richard Brown robbed the Longhoughton keeper on the edge of the box to shoot into an open goal.

Another fine goal by Richard Brown five minutes from time appeared to have secured all the points for the Colliers only for the visitors to equalise two minutes from time with a header at the back-post from a right-wing corner.
