Cobras book their place in the final

Alnwick Town Cobras 3 New Fordley 2

NEYD Cup semi-final

Alnwick entertained New Fordley at Greensfield on Sunday in the semi-final of the NEYD Cup.

Cobras started well with some neat passing and had New Fordley on the back foot. The breakthrough came when Cameron Atwell picked up the ball in midfield, skipped past a tackle then unleashed a 30-yard shot over the keeper into the top corner of the net (1-0).

Cobras started to dominate, with the dangerous Marco MacKenley breaking past defenders with ease.

It wasn’t long before Cobras got their second. MacKenley broke down the left and was fouled. Atwell drilled a low free-kick across the box where MacKenley slid the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

New Fordley started to put the pressure on at the start of the second half and managed to get a goal back after a scramble in the box.

Cobras knew they were in a game as New Fordley started to pile on the pressure, but they are proving to be a hard team to beat and responded as Cole Harris played Tyler Henderson through, but a heavy touch allowed the keeper to clear.

Then came the goal of the game. MacKenley received the ball in his own half and went past three players before sliding it under the keeper to make it 3-1.

New Fordley grabbed a second due to some sloppy defending from a corner.

Cobras battled well against a strong New Fordley team.
