Nathan Buddle insists Blyth Spartans will have a right go at Birmingham City in Saturday’s David versus Goliath FA Cup Third Round tie.
The Northern Premier League side, who have already beaten higher-tier opposition in their stunning cup run, are eyeing another upset when Birmingham City, of the Championship, come to town.
And 21-year-old central defender Buddle, from Amble, insists they will throw everything at Gary Rowett’s men, who sit six rungs above Blyth in the football ladder.
“We will have a right go and we have absolutely nothing to lose, so who knows what will happen on the day,” said Buddle, whose FA Cup account began in September in the First Qualifying Round.
The extraordinary run has included wins over Conference side Altrincham and Hartlepool United, of League Two.
The live-on-TV Second Round triumph against Pools was extra sweet for Buddle, who was released by the club in 2013.
While Birmingham wasn’t the dream Third Round tie that many were hoping for, Buddle insists that playing against the 2011 Carling Cup winners will be the biggest game of his career.
“We’re facing a top club and this match is a massive bonus to our season,” said Buddle, who scored in the recent league win against Grantham Town.
The game kicks off at Croft Park, Blyth, at 3pm. It is a sell-out.
