Morpeth Sunday League, round-up

Division One

Ashington RAOB remain top of the league and unbeaten after defeating Bedlington Barrington 3-0 on Sunday.

Ashington took the lead mid-way through the second half after a great through-ball found a penetrating run by midfielder Liam Davidson, who curled the ball into the bottom corner.

The lead was doubled ten minutes later by striker Adam Bains, who was involved in the third after another mazy run culminated in him clumsily being brought down in the box by Dunn, leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty. Shaun Gibson dispatched the spot-kick.

HMP Northumberland defeated Amble Blue Bell 7-1 thanks to goals from Perry Fearon, Andy Naylor, Carl Summerson, Ricardo Antonio, Steven Langton and man-of-the-match Scott Hine. The scoring was rounded off by an own-goal from Amble’s Paul Delson.

Wharton Arms defeated Morpeth Wansbeck 7-2.

ES Johnson Challenge Cup

Amble Tavern took their place in the semi-finals after a convincing 7-1 win over Morpeth Shambles, thanks to goals from Josh Hay (four), Brad McLelland (two) and Brad Wake. They join Bedlington Barrington, HMP Northumberland and The Wharton Arms in the draw on January 19.

NFA Minor Cup

The league’s two remaining teams were knocked out in the third round. Bedlington FC lost 6-0 to Newcastle Daisy Hill and Stobswood went down 4-1 to Blucher Blue Star.
