Northumberland footballer Lucy Bronze has been called up to England’s 2015 Women’s World Cup squad.
The former PFA Women’s Player of the Year, from Alnwick, has won selection despite an injury-plagued start to life at new club Manchester City.
The tough-tackling defender has become a regular in the Three Lions set-up and has 16 caps to her name, including playing in last year’s historic match against Germany; the first time the women’s national side has played at the new Wembley.
Bronze was an integral part of England’s World Cup qualifying campaign, in which they won every match.
England begin their World Cup campaign against France on June 9 in Moncton, Canada, with the final of the competition to be played on July 5.
Every game from the Women’s World Cup 2015 will be broadcast live across BBC 2, BBC 3, BBC Red Button and online.
