Away win sees Colliers back to winning ways in derby

Alnmouth Utd 1 Shilbottle CW Res 4

North Northumberland League, Division Two

Shilbottle got back to winning ways following a long losing run with this comfortable victory in the local derby held on a sodden Hotspur Park.

After a fairly even opening period, it was the Colliers who struck first after 20 minutes when David Hubbard headed home a cross from Michael Brown. They increased their lead after 35 minutes when good play from John Mowbray set up Stephen Hutchins to finish well.

Shilbottle were now in the ascendancy and added a third five minutes later when a long-range effort from Richard Brown struck the cross bar and Stephen Hutchins followed up to head in the rebound.

Richard Brown then made it four for the Colliers just before the break when he found the back of the net with a strong drive from the edge of the box to give his side a comfortable lead at the interval.

Play became rather scrappy after the restart as the heavy pitch began to take its toll on the players, but Alnmouth did manage to pull a goal back on 65 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, which was confidently struck home by captain Frost.

The home side never looked like retrieving the situation further as the game faded to a rather tame closure and a comfortable three points for the Colliers.
