Amble stay top after confident display

Newcastle Uni...0 Amble Utd...2

AMBLE maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign with victory over the students of Newcastle University on Saturday.

They turned in a brilliant performance to come away with the three points.

The first half started at a high tempo, with Amble having the lion’s share of possession.

On 20 minutes, some good midfield play released S Taylor who ran through, only for the keeper to save with his legs.

Amble again were creating chances with D Riddell and R Gair going close.

Their defence was on top now and the home side never gave keeper Ross Stewart any trouble.

With the pitch getting greasy, Amble took control and had all the play as J Hay and L Harker troubled the home keeper.

Half-time: 0-0

The second half started the same as the first finished, with Amble having all the play their own way.

Chances came along but credit must be given to the home keeper, who kept Amble at bay.

On 58 minutes, the referee awarded Amble a penalty, only for G Dance to miss the target.

With Amble controlling the ball, D Riddell hit a cracking 25-yard drive into the roof of the net.

The Uni lads were lucky not to be down to 10 men when the defender brought down J Hay when clean through on goal, the result a penalty which S Taylor converted with ease.

Amble played out the remaining 10 minutes without any problems to stay on top of the bunch with seven games played.
