Amble battle back to book slot in final

U16 Divisional Cup Semi-Final

FC Amble Juniors travelled to Berwick for their much-anticipated semi-final cup tie.

They enjoyed the first chance on goal, with a Ronan Straughan free-kick into the penalty area for Josh Briggs to head just wide of the upright.

Berwick were awarded a free-kick on 17 minutes just outside the penalty area, striking the ball hard into the top corner for a 1-0 lead.

Berwick were awarded another free-kick from the same place, but Amble’s Nathan Potts got his head to the ball to clear any danger.

Phil Brown pulled off a good save with Berwick having a quick shot on target from close range.

The visitors made their way upfield, playing some good football, with Ronan Straughan striking the ball from the edge of the boxto find the bottom corner (1-1).

James Byrne started another move, playing the ball to James Oliver, who found Brad Little. He laid the ball off to Jason Imeson before Josh Briggs finished off the move with a great goal, striking the ball hard and low (1-2 at half-time).

Early in the second half, Phil Brown pulled off another good save for Amble to keep their slender lead.

Minutes later, Ali Batey cut in front of the defender, going one-on-one with the keeper. His shot went across the face of goal, going inches wide of the upright.

Berwick had two decent chances, both headers at the back-post, with both going just wide of the target.

Going into the last 10 minutes, Berwick broke away, with Phil Brown pulling off another tremendous save for Amble to send the boys into another Divisional Cup final, this time against Cramlington Juniors.
