NORTHERN LEAGUE, DIVISION TWO
Alnwick Town didn’t have the best of starts to the new year, going down 1-4 at home to Washington this afternoon.
The pitch was passed fit after all the recent rain, the weather held and the visitors, who started the day five points and four places above the Northumbrians, began well, scoring first.
But Alnwick dragged theselves back into it when Dominic Schiavetta followed up after Tony Brown’s penalty had been saved.
Then Kev Elliott was sent off to reduce Town to ten men in a heated encounter.
Washington took advantage with a goal to take a 1-2 lead just before half-time.
They scored twice more to wrap up the points.
