Alnwick lose but keep league position

Alnwick Town remain above the relegation zone in the Northern League Division Two, despite a 4-2 defeat at Washington last night.

A poor first half saw the black ‘n’ whites three-down at the interval, before two goals from Ben Keenan gave Town a glimmer of hope.

Unfortunately, it was not to be as the home side scored another before the end.

However, bottom two Horden CW and Esh Winning were both on the end of heavy defeats yesterday, meaning Alnwick stay third from bottom.

Horden lost 4-1 at table-toppers Crook Town while Esh Winning lost 8-1 at fourth-placed Darlington RA.

Town are now one point off the drop-zone and two points behind 19th-placed Stokesley, who have two games in hand.
