ALNMOUTH UNITED 3
RED HOUSE FARM 0
Expecting a stern test from the visiting Premier Division side in this League Cup fixture,Alnmouth produced the shock of the round to eliminate them with relative ease – three first half strikes setting up a second half stroll.
Brett Rogerson got the scoring underway on fifteen minutes after Michael Brown’s strike from outside the box crashed back off the bar only for the scorer to produce greater accuracy, finding the bottom corner from similar range.
Dan Palmer added the second with an unstoppable twenty yard free kick into the top corner on 40 minutes while the third was added just before the break when Liam Jefferson played out wide to Andy Murray whose whipped centre was finished from fifteen yards by Brown.
Although Red House Farm at times pushed the ball around impressively, it was rarely where it hurt and apart from Lee Brady skimming the angle during one attack, the bolstered home midfield snuffed out much of their opponents approach work and when they did threaten, the back line protected Mick Ashurst between the posts to give him a quiet afternoon.
In fact United were unfortunate not to add to their tally on a number of occasions as their determination led to further chances.
