NEWCASTLE PHIL’S 2
ALNMOUTH UNITED 14
Alnmouth United progressed to the last 16 of the Minor Cup after a resounding victory over their Corinthian League opponents.
Ryan Taylor got the scoring underway but the Philosophers, who had been table toppers earlier in the season, were soon level again through Kris McCoy.
A Dan Palmer penalty restored the visitors lead and five more were to follow before the break as Taylor registered his hat-trick and Andy Murray, Dane Dawson and Kevin Bell made the score-sheet.
Wholesale changes at half-time saw newly introduced Judd Donohoe quickly add two more to make it nine before a half hour lull as Alnmouth squandered numerous opportunities with useful home keeper Paul Gormley continuing to impress but double figures were achieved on 80 minutes as Matty Robson’s bender found the top corner from range.
Donohoe then completed his treble after Jorden Frost’s effort thudded back off the bar. Frost then saw a penalty saved but it was soon 12 when Liam Jefferson’s 20 yard strike went in off the angle. Stu Patterson pulled one back for Newcastle, but Michael Brown produced number 13 with Robson added his second to complete the rout.
