An Alnwick gymnast has won a silver medal at a prestigious competition which attracts some of the sport’s hottest stars.
Finn Gavin, 11, got his hands on the gong at the recent European Gymnastics Acrobatic Championships in Portugal.
The youngster was part of a quartet from Durham’s Deerness Gymnastics Academy which came second in the 11-16 age men’s four contest. The other members were Michael Gill, 15, from Ponteland, as well as Nathan Brady,15, and Stuart Napier, 14, both from Durham.
A total of 10 Deerness gymnasts competed at the Championships, and each grabbed silvers.
All 10, including Finn, are British Champions, and are coached by Stuart Thompson and Karl Wharton.
Finn said: “The last year, since training with Stuart Thompson, has been unbelievable – winning the British, being selected for Team GB and getting a silver medal in my first international competition.
“I’m so proud.”
