HUNDREDS of children competed in the Chance to Shine Cricket Festivals last month.

The first, on Wednesday, June 22, took place at Warkworth Cricket Club and attracted around 100 youngsters from Warkworth C of E (Aided) First School, Amble’s St Cuthbert’s RC First School and Amble Links First School.

Then last Wednesday, around 200 children from Alnwick South First School, Longhoughton C of E First School and Hipsburn First School competed in the second festival, held at Alnmouth & Lesbury Cricket Club.

The youngsters took part in some small-sided matches and for most it was their first experience of a cricket competition.

The aim of the events was to give the children the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they had learnt throughout the Chance to Shine schools coaching programme during the summer term.

All the schools involved demonstrated excellent play during the festivals and all the youngsters received a certificate for their hard work and were encouraged to continue playing cricket.
