Bamburgh Castle (148) v Benwell Hill (203-6)
On a beautiful summer’s day last Wednesday, Bamburgh lost their latest match to an experienced Benwell Hill side by 55 runs.
Batting first, the Newcastle-based side lost an early wicket when Barry Evans was bowled by Andrew Wright for a single in the second over.
Dave Ladd and Greg Robertson then added a further 80 runs in 15 overs before opener Ladd was stumped for 37.
Benwell continued to score at a good pace and although Bamburgh used seven different bowlers, the Castle Field side were unable to make much of an impact and bowl out the Tynesiders.
Benwell eventually finished their innings on 203-6 at tea with Robertson top-scoring with a hard-hitting 55.
Andrew Wright was the main wicket-taker for Bamburgh taking 3-49 off his 10 overs.
He was ably supported by Mike Threllfell (1-42), Andrew Scott (1-41) and Alex Davies (1-31).
In their reply, Bamburgh slumped to a disappointing 50-5 off 16 overs.
But then a stand of 54 from Mike Threllfell, who top-scored with 40, and Andrew Scott (38) took the score up to a reasonable total.
Bamburgh were eventually bowled out for 148 in the 40th over and they did nothing to help their cause by having three of their batsmen run out.
Bamburgh’s match with Alnmouth and Lesbury was cancelled on Sunday due to Alnmouth being unable to raise a side.
Their next match is against Cross Keys on Friday at 2pm.
