Eglingham triumph

Eglingham (115) v Chatton

Sunday saw the traditional Eglingham v Chatton season opener, played in good spirits.

Chatton won the toss and elected to bowl. Opener G Bateman hit a quickfire 15 before being bowled by Simpson, Scott and Graham then batted well, reaching 79 before Graham was caught off Gallivan’s bowling for 28.

Scott top-scored with 38 before falling to Dodd. The innings limped to 115 all out with three wickets for Simpson, two for Gillespie-Payne, two for Dodd and one each for Penn, Gallivan and Bagness.

Chatton opened much as Eglingham had with Dodd hitting a quick 15 before falling to the spin of D Scott.

Harvey and Crowe steadied the ship and took the score to 73 before Harvey was bowled by Gray for 41.

Gray took a spectacular catch off the bowling of T Robson to dismiss Crowe and Robson followed this by bowling Gillespie-Payne for a double-wicket maiden with the score still on 73. But skipper Aaron Scott and Munro again steadied the ship and had Chatton back on track before falling with 15 and 20 respectively.

The home side claimed victory by four wickets.
