ALNWICK slumped to their first defeat in five games in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Darlington.
The Northumbrians, who hadn’t lost in the league since November, had been lying in second place going into this match at Greensfield against the table-toppers.
But the 24-31 defeat saw them overtaken by Stockton, after the County Durham side won 41-20 at Ponteland.
And Alnwick will rue the missed opportunity at home after going in at the interval 19-5 to the good.
Darlington exploded out of the blocks in the second half, scoring four tries, with the north Northumberland side only managing to grab a losing bonus point with a score at the death.
Alnwick will be looking to get back to winning ways at lowly Ashington, with only three league wins to their name this season, on Saturday.
