Twelve Alnwick Harriers were in action on Sunday in the second of the club’s 2013 Grand Prix events, the Run Northumberland Half-Marathon at Kirkley Hall, near Ponteland.

Despite the snow and freezing temperatures it was a day to remember for a jubilant Phil Hemsley.

Phil was a superb 12th overall, easily winning the male 50 category in a brilliant 1.20.18.

Other performances of note were a great run by Pauline Aitchison, who agonisingly missed out on a half-marathon PB by just a few seconds, and by Denise Drummond, Ruth Doctor and Sarah Cross, in her first race as a Harrier, who all notched PBs.

Results: 12-Phil Hemsley 1.20.18; 50-Mark Miller 1.28.34; 92-Pauline Aitchison 1.32.47; 161-Mark Doctor 1.38.16; 236-Dave Hindmarsh 1.43.22; 328-Denise Drummond 1.51.20; 331-Sue Bolam 1.51.27; 332-Sarah Cross 1.51.33; 352-Mairi Campbell 1.53.02; 354-Dave Bartrum 1.53.11; 363-Ruth Doctor 1.54.59; 367-Maureen Bartrum 1.55.40.

Also that morning, six Harriers took part in the Brough Law Fell Race in the Ingram Valley.

Bruce Crombie was the star performer, finishing third behind former British fell-racing champion Gavin Bland and possibly the best North East fell-runner Phil Sanderson.

It was a great run by Bruce, who knocked almost two minutes off his time from the same race last year.

Another good performance came from Bridget Peberdy, in one of her last races for the club before moving Stateside, who finished second in the female 50 category.

Results: 3-Bruce Crombie 38.23; 9-David Lowe 43.00 (representing Northumberland Fell Runners); 49-Kim Bronze 58.15; 50-Bridget Peberdy 59.27; 51-John Cockburn 59.28; 62-Mark Hume 1.20.00.

The day before, Adam Weightman was representing the North East in the U15s Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham.

Adam performed well, completing the 4.5km course in 17.26, finishing 75th of the 287 runners.

Adam was third counter for the North East team.

Also on Saturday, six Harriers took part in Parkruns, with the fastest time being achieved by Danny Richardson at Whitley Bay.

Danny was 11th of 134 runners in 19.38.

Five Harriers took part in the Newcastle Parkrun that morning and, despite grim conditions on the Town Moor, there were 5k PBs from Jackie Moscrop and Annabel Lillico.

Results: 37-Jim Lillico 20.06; 62-Jackie Moscrop 21.21; 76-Phil Baston 22.03; 101-Annabel Lillico 23.08; 127-Charlotte Baston 23.58.
