Newcastle IV...0 Alnwick II...1

ALNWICK were determined not to let last week’s defeat hinder their chance of success on Sunday, and this was apparent from the first whistle.

The first half saw some good attacking play from Alnwick using the width to generate space and Sparrow making good use of the back pass to Frew to switch play. A strong defence from Alnwick and some good saves by Graham saw off a few hairy moments from the Newcastle attack.

Just before the first half was out, Pettifer made a great break, managing to draw the keeper to the right and getting the ball into the net, scoring on her debut for Alnwick Seconds and making it 1-0.

After a quick team talk at the break, Alnwick were back on the pitch determined to maintain their lead.

Alnwick enjoyed the majority of possession and they were unlucky not to build on the score, with some strong strikes from Nixon and Pettifer. This was a well-deserved win and an important one as it was both a league and a shield game.
