AN Alnwick Harrier finished third in an Italian marathon at the weekend.
David Kirkland, who has won numerous races for the club, won the over 40 category in the Napoli City Event on Sunday, January 29. He was 20 minutes clear of his nearest rival finishing the course in 2:30:40.
And for David it is just one of a string of achievements. In 2008 and 2009 he won the Reykjavik Marathon for the club and the Nottingham Marathon in 2009.
He’s also won the Harriers’ Northumberland Coastal Run twice and the Les Allcorn 10k five years on the trot between 2006 and 2010.
David has also represented Great Britain in the World 50k Championships.
David’s main races for the remainder of the year are the 39.3-mile Connemara Ultra Marathon in Ireland in April and the 56-mile Comrades Marathon in South Africa in June.
He will of course also be taking part in NEHL cross-country events at Wrekenton, Alnwick and Prudhoe.
Elsewhere in the Harriers three Parkrun regulars took part in the Newcastle Parkrun on Saturday, January 28.
David Nolan was the highlight dipping back below 20 minutes for the 5k course. Harriers results: 35 - David Nolan 19.59; 144 - Phil Lee 23.41; 208 - Charlotte Baston 26.14.
Harriers training tonight has been cancelled due to commitments from members.
It will return to normal next week.
