Star Alnwick boxer Cyrus Pattinson is guaranteed at least a bronze medal after winning his first bout in a prestigious competition in Slovakia last night.
Pattinson knocked out a home boxer in the second round of his contest in the Slovakia Boxing Club Triebel tournament.
The 21-year-old progressed to today’s semi-final where he will meet a tough Czech opponent for a berth in the 69kg final.
The Birtley Boxing Club powerhouse said on Instagram: “It’s all about getting my hand raised again. Secure silver and move towards Sunday for the real reason why I’m here ... the gold! Let’s do this!”
He said he’d had great preparation for the tournament, with four ‘quality sessions’ over in Slovakia before yesterday’s quarter-final.
“Made 69kg with ease! Very tough and internationally experienced category, but I came here for one reason,” he said. “If I can’t find away to win, I’ll make one! Nothing less than victory as always.”
