THE magic of the cup prevailed in the Alnwick Premier Darts League on Friday, with a string of giant killings.
Division B side Alnwick Working Men’s Club B caused an upset in the second round of the Knockout Cup when they came from behind to beat Division A high-fliers Bell Bar B.
The Club had trailed 3-2 but managed to claw themselves back into the contest before taking the honours 4-3, with John Dennis checking out on 70 to win the match.
Division B team Alnwick Gate C also caused a stir in the competition by defeating higher-league opposition, knocking out John Bull with a 4-2 victory.
But there were no such scares for Alnwick Gate A who enjoyed an emphatic 4-0 cup victory over their bar and Division A rivals, Blue Bell A.
The scoreline flattered the Gate somewhat with the Bell just unable to land the doubles.
The semi-final line-up for the Knockout Cup was completed by a triumphant Oddies B, who beat Farriers 4-1 in the all-Division A clash.
It turned out to be a difficult night for both Alnwick Castle Golf Club sides in the preliminary round of the Subsidiary Plate.
Oddies A beat the club’s A side 4-2 while The George knocked out the B team, triumphing by the same scoreline.
Both victors will now face each other in the first round of the Subsidiary Plate, which is being played tomorrow night.
