Hosting a three-team tournament played in a round robin format, Tillside lost both of their matches, but can take great satisfaction from taking a big stride forward for the sport.

Lisa Scott, a member of the South/North team who beat Tillside by one run in the opening game, said: “There was only one winner – women’s and girls’ cricket.

“We had just over 30 girls/women out playing, which is a great success for Tillside’s first time at holding a ladies tournament. The day was a massive success.”

In their first ever match, Tillside opened the batting against South/North, with Rebecca Murray (18) and Nicole Reed (15) setting a great standard. Afterthe loss of a few wickets it was up to Brogan Ashley and Gillian Whittle to bring Tillside’s score up to 91.

Tillside, having given South/North a decent target to meet, settled into fielding, with some dynamic wicket- keeping from Christi Avril.

Two phenomenal wickets taken by Sarah Mulvey and one from Amanda Hindmarsh, coupled with some excellent catches from Brogan and Murray, meant the match went down to the wire.
