Rare tied game for Alnwick cricketers

Alnwick 1sts were involved in a rare tied game when they travelled to take on Cowgate 1sts in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League Division 2 on Saturday.

Both sides ended with exactly the same score of 180-9 at the end of their 45 overs.

Three of the home bats hit into the 40’s in their innings, with David Wright taking 4-29. In reply, Alnwick saw Cameron Nicholls top score on 51, but they just couldn’t get over the finishing line in an exciting finish.

Also in Division 2, Warkworth 1sts suffered a 43-run home defeat at the hands of Blue Flames 1sts.

Blue Flames batted first and with Amjad Khan hitting 51 they made 177-7, Ian Clough taking 4-42. In reply, Warkworth were dismissed for 134 with Stephen Darius on 65.

In Division 1, Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts saw their away game against Morpeth 1sts cancelled due to the wet weather.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, Alnmouth & Lesbury 2nds won by eight wickets at home to Stobswood 1sts.

Stobswood posted 128-9 with Stefan Townsley on 34, Andrew McFonnell taking 4-11. Peter Robinson top scored with 64 and Lee Mark was 58 not out as Alnmouth replied with 133-2

In Division 5 North, Warenford moved to the top of the table with their six wicket home win over Monkseaton 1sts. The Tynesiders were all out for only 69 with Michael Thompson taking 4-12. Waren (71-4) chased it down in 22 overs.

Basement side Rock lost by eight wickets at home to Ulgham 1sts.

On a good batting wicket, Rock out on 164-5, but Ulgham were 168-2, getting the winning runs in the final over.

Howick lost by seven runs at home to Cramlington 2nds. Cramlington were 149-8 with Howick all out for 142 in reply, Andrew Hodgson top scoring on 33.

Alnwick 2nds’ home game against Morpeth 2nds was cancelled.

In Division 6 North Wooler had a six wicket away win over Embleton. The home side batted first but were all out for 71, Thomas Comber taking 6-26. It was an easy target for the Glendale side who were 77-3 in reply.

Warkworth 2nds were awarded maximum points after their away game against Blyth 2nds was conceded by their hosts.
