Champions – Alnmouth & Lesbury win cricket league

Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts are the 2019 Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League Division 1 champions.

Their title was confirmed at the weekend, on the final day of the season, when they had a ten wicket home win over Stocksfield. The visitors batted first and were all out for 108 with Dushan Hemantha taking 6-31. Alnmouth chased it down without loss at 112 with Paul Straker on 62 not out and Jonathan Craig’s on 40 not out.

Club Chairman, Andrew Hodgson said: “To finish top of the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League is the club’s greatest ever achievement and it shows the enormous progress the club has made, particularly over the last ten years.”

Captain Tom Vickers said: “Last year we finished in the bottom half of the Division 1 and this season’s success has been achieved with largely the same group of players.

“We have put in some great team performances, but particular mention must go to Dushan Hemantha who was the League’s top wicket-taker with 62 wickets and Paul Straker who scored 754 league runs. We finished the season strongly with a nine match unbeaten run which started in mid July.”

In Division 2, Alnwick 1sts finished with an eight wicket home win over Greenside. Greenside made 149 all out and Alnwick were 152-3 in reply with Michael Brewis on 65 not out and and Max Harrison on 56.

In Division 3 Warkworth finished with an 88 run away win over Corbridge 1st and were second in the table behind champions Blagdon Park. Matthew Potts hit a century (101) as they posted 224-8. They then bowled Corbridge out for 136 with three wickets each for Doug and Matthew Potts.

Alnmouth & Lesbury 2nds finished eighth after a 30 run away defeat to Cramlington 1sts. Billy Pullman hit 76 as Cramlington made 167-9, Robin Tudor taking 3-34. Archie Elder hit 52 as Alnmouth replied with 137 all out.

In Division 5, Alnwick 2nds finished with a 51 run away win over Ulgham 1sts. Bradley Spiers hit 98 as Alnwick put on 146 all out - Ulgham were 95 in reply.

Rock edged out Howick by only four points to win Division 6. This was despite the fact that Howick won their top of the table clash by nine runs. Howick posted 132-9 with Rock 123-8 in reply.
