Alnmouth and Lesbury edge Percy Main in Plate final thriller

Last season’s Northumberland and Tyneside League Division One champions Alnmouth and Lesbury have picked-up where they left off last season, by winning more silverware.

In a final carried over from last season, they took on Percy Main in the Smithson Cup Plate final at the County Ground Jesmond on Sunday.

Percy Main were restricted to 129-8 in their 20 overs and in a tight finish Alnmouth chased the runs down with just two balls to spare, to win by four wickets.

Paul Straker was awarded man of the match for his score of 58, earning him a bottle of champagne.

A reorganised one-off 10 division league structure starts on Saturday and will run until September 19. In Division One, Alnmouth travel to Warkworth, while Alnwick host Morpeth and Tillside travel to Bates Cottages.

Elsewhere, Ben Archer has joined the Northumberland Cricket Board as Disability Development Officer and will now aim to deliver the new Super 1s programme across the county.

Working in partnership with the Lord's Taverners, Archer will provide community-based cricketing opportunities, both competitive and coaching, for young people with disabilities.

He will work with schools and in the community to deliver a year-round cricket programme that is diverse, inclusive and is open to young people with a disability.

Archer will establish regional hubs to provide additional opportunities to play and will also lead the delivery of the table cricket programme in schools.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
